Before You Request Assistance

Indy Neighborhood Cats is a limited-capacity, community-powered nonprofit. Please review what we can and cannot do to ensure we are the right resource for your situation.

What We Are

  • A community cat program: We help Indianapolis residents take action for outdoor cats.
  • A TNR organization: We trap, spay/neuter, vaccinate, ear-tip, and return community cats.
  • A resource for outdoor cats and caretakers: We help people access traps, carriers, appointments, food support, winter shelters, and colony care guidance.
  • A community empowerment program: Through Be Somebody, we teach residents how to help cats in their own neighborhoods.
  • A bridge to rescue when possible: Kittens and friendly abandoned cats may be referred to rescue partners when space is available.
  • A limited-capacity nonprofit: We help hundreds of cats each month, but the need is greater than available appointments, funding, volunteers, and foster space.

What We Are NOT

  • Not a shelter or intake facility: We do not have a building where cats can be dropped off or surrendered.
  • Not a cat rescue: We cannot take every friendly cat, kitten, or litter.
  • Not animal control: We do not remove cats from neighborhoods simply because they are outdoors.
  • Not a relocation service: Relocation is rare and only considered when return is truly unsafe or impossible.
  • Not an emergency veterinary clinic: We cannot provide full-service or emergency medical care.
  • Not a concierge adoption service or endless waitlist: We cannot hold cats for specific adopters, and we must set limits to help responsibly and sustainably.
