Creating Space for Healing Through Fostering

Sometimes, a cat needs more than just a shelter kennel and a little time. They need a dedicated rescue, a solid medical plan, and—most importantly—a foster willing to open their home. This is exactly where the Indy Neighborhood Cats foster program steps in.

indy neighborhood cats, foster program 3When a cat has complex medical needs, the loud and busy shelter environment can be incredibly overwhelming. Fostering provides these vulnerable cats with a warm, quiet place to decompress and receive the personalized care they desperately need to recover.

Take Morgana’s story, for example. This sweet 10-year-old senior cat spent nearly two months at the shelter dealing with pain, weakness in her back legs, and a host of other medical concerns. She needed continued medical attention outside of the shelter environment. Thankfully, two dedicated members of our community stepped forward to foster her.

The benefit for cats like Morgana is immediate and life-changing. Instead of lying in a shelter kennel, Morgana is now resting on soft blankets, watching cat television, and finally learning that she is safe. Being in a calm home environment allowed her urgent-care veterinarian to accurately assess her condition, determine her pain was likely connected to arthritis rather than pelvic fractures, and get her started on the right medications and supportive food.

If you have a spare room and a little extra love to give, consider becoming a foster. It is one of the most direct and rewarding ways you can change a cat’s life forever!
