What an incredible weekend of impact for #TeamCat! Between powering the pet food pantry and equipping local residents with hands-on skills, our volunteers worked tirelessly to support both people and pets across Indianapolis.
FIDO / INC Pet Food Pantry Serves Over 65 Households
The combined FIDO Indy / Indy Neighborhood Cats Pet Food Pantry was in full swing, serving more than 65 households across Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday—including 54 households during the first two days of our beginning-of-the-month drive alone.
While clients received fast, efficient service, dedicated INC volunteers got straight to work packaging the massive supply of dog and cat food required for the entire month. (And of course, William, one of the warehouse cats, was on site to supervise every detail!)
Empowering Neighborhoods: The “Be Somebody” Trapper Training
Providing essential food supplies was only one half of our weekend mission. We also hosted our third monthly trapper training through the Be Somebody Empowerment Program.
When residents step forward to care for community cats, we want to equip them with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to trap safely, effectively, and responsibly—especially when navigating high-traffic zones or challenging colony environments.
Sustainable Change, One Block at a Time
This dual approach is how we create lasting, long-term impact:
Data-Driven Targeting: Using community data to pinpoint areas of greatest need.
Neighborhood Empowerment: Training local resident groups so they become an active part of the solution.
Population Stability: Managing community cat populations block-by-block and neighborhood-by-neighborhood.
The long-term solution to animal welfare isn’t relying on a small handful of volunteers to do everything—it’s building informed, empowered communities that can gain ground and hold it.
